There are so much more to our area than wine and flowers. Vanrhynsdorp is ideally situated to explore all the different attractions within an 80km radius.
Vanrhynsdorp is centrally situated for day visits to all the surrounding areas during flower season. We are 75 km from the Cederberg area, 80 km from Doringbaai, 100 km from Lambertsbay and only 45 km from Nieuwoudtville, the Quivertree Forest and picturesque Matjiesfontein.
We have an extraordinary botanical heritage that ranges from the blooming vygieveld in spring to the eccentric miniature succulents and obscure soil lichen of the Knersvlakte. These plants represent one of the world’s most unique and threatened collections of plant species.
We also offer hiking in the Matzikamma, Koebee and Gifberg Mountains, canoeing and river rafting on the Olifants- and Doring Rivers. A visit to the San Rock Art sites in the mountains is a must-do. The drive around Gifberg is one of the most scenic in the area. After a day of exploring you can relax at The Jetty in Doringbay with a cold glass of the region’s best wines.
Our area has almost a third of the country’s endemic bird species. Salome is the founder and chairperson of the Namaqua BIRD Club and a qualified Nature Guide and will be happy to assist in finding those special birds like Layard’s Tit-Babbler, Karoo Korhaan, Ludwig’s Bustard and Cape Long-billed Lark
